In-Situ Sim

What is it? Practicing critical care resuscitations in our usual work environment, with our usual equipment, with our usual team. This helps us improve our Crisis Resource Management skills, identifies latent safety threats and helps problem solve system issues. Through In-Situ Simulation, we “Learn by doing, Reflect on the experience & Implement in the future”

Why Do Sim?

Just like professional athletes need to practice, the simulation sessions serve that purpose for us. They improve our collective performance in challenging resuscitations. They help staff become more comfortable with the environment they work in and the staff they work with, while gaining exposure to rare but critical scenarios. It’s team practice!

What is CRM?

Crisis Resource Management is simply the tools we use to navigate the situation where the resuscitation demands many complex priorities simultaneously while having limited resources. The Ottawa Global Rating Scale is a validated tool used to asses CRM skills. The scale attached highlights the ideal performance in each of the 5 categories of CRM.
